US DoE allows American LNG to export gas from Hialeah Facility in Florida

US Department of Energy (DoE) has authorised American LNG Marketing to export liquefied natural gas (LNG) from its Hialeah facility in Florida to countries which do not have a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the country.

The firm will be able to export domestically produced LNG up to the equivalent of 0.008 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of for a period of 20 years, according to the approval.

Proposed exports from the Hialeah liquefaction facility, which is located near Medley in Miami-Dade County, will be done through approved ISO LNG containers.

The facility, which will be owned and operated by its corporate affiliate LNG Holdings, had received DOE authorisation for FTA exports in March.

According to Energy Information Administration, US will be experiencing increase in domestic natural gas production with the average for this year expected to be 79.06 Bcf/d.

The approval was granted by the federal agency following thorough review of the application forwarded by the company, which took into consideration its economic, energy security, and environmental impacts.

Permission for the non-FTA exports were granted once the agency found those to be in the public interest.
