Uzbekistan’s state-owned oil and gas company Uzbekneftegaz has launched UNG Burg’ilash LLC as a national drilling company aimed at expanding oil and gas exploration activities, introducing advanced drilling technologies, and reinforcing the country’s hydrocarbon production capabilities. The newly established national drilling company will operate as a subsidiary of Uzbekneftegaz, according to the state-owned company’s press service. Its core responsibility will be the drilling of oil and gas wells on the Ustyurt Plateau and other prospective regions of Uzbekistan while adhering to international standards.
Through the establishment of the national drilling company, Uzbekneftegaz intends to accelerate the exploration of new hydrocarbon reserves while supporting stable oil and gas production throughout the country.
Uzbekneftegaz said the creation of the company is designed to facilitate the adoption of modern deep-well drilling technologies, establish a national drilling school, and enhance the competitiveness of Uzbekistan’s oil and gas sector. In addition to supporting domestic operations, the national drilling company is expected to provide drilling services in neighboring countries and other international markets.
As part of its development program, UNG Burg’ilash will purchase 21 modern ZJ-70 and ZJ-90 drilling rigs fitted with digital control systems. These rigs will have the capability to drill wells to depths of up to 9,000 meters, with deliveries to Uzbekistan scheduled to begin in October 2026. The company also plans to gradually acquire high-pressure cementing fleets, compressor and nitrogen units, well testing and development equipment, specialized vehicles, and other machinery required for drilling operations.
Modern Equipment and International Expertise to Support Long-Term Growth
To strengthen its operational capabilities, UNG Burg’ilash will recruit engineers and highly qualified specialists with international experience. The company also intends to work alongside leading international oilfield service providers to implement modern drilling technologies. This cooperation will cover key technical areas, including drilling fluid preparation, cementing, logging, drill bit supply, and well testing, supporting the efficient execution of future drilling projects.
According to Uzbekneftegaz, the project is expected to improve the quality of well construction while reducing drilling timelines, lowering operational risks, and increasing production efficiency across its activities. In addition to its technical and operational objectives, the establishment of UNG Burg’ilash is projected to generate more than 1,000 new jobs, contributing to the continued development of Uzbekistan’s oil and gas industry.
