More than 80 personnel has been evacuated after a fire on-board the offshore support vessel Fugro Symphony in Peterhead harbour, Scotland.
The blaze started on Fugro’s deepwater vessel when it was docked.
Following the incident, 35 Scottish Fire and Rescue Service personnel rushed to the site and brought it under control within couple of hours.
Five appliances and a foam unit were used to control the flames.
“It is believed that it might have started in an electrical switch room in the lower decks.”
The exact cause of the blaze has yet to be determined. However, it is believed that it might have started in an electrical switch room in the lower decks, the BBC reported.
Before being allowed to return to the vessel, crew members were provided shelter at the Fishermen’s Mission in Peterhead.
Fugro Symphony is a purpose built ROV support vessel and is equipped with a McGregor Hydramarine ‘Active Boost’ 150T AHC knuckle-boom crane that is capable of subsea lifts at 150Te in single fall mode down to 3,000m.
The lengthened ST327L-CD vessel has been designed to address the demands of the deep water remote intervention, construction and survey markets.
Specialised in remote-controlled underwater operations, the four-year-old vessel’s main deck has two FCV3000 work class ROV systems located within the central hanger area.
