ShawCor wins second contract for Shah Deniz Stage 2 project in Azerbaijan

AI Summary

ShawCor pipe coating division Bredero Shaw has secured a second contract from BP Exploration for pipeline coating work on the Shah Deniz Stage 2 development project in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea.

ShawCor will implement the contract, worth about $200m, at the Caspian Pipe Coatings (CPC) facility in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The contract includes the application of anti-corrosion and concrete weight coatings, as well as improvements to the CPC plant in Baku.

Upon completion, it will allow the facility to meet the project’s needs for anti-corrosion and concrete weight coating.

Coating is anticipated to start in 2015 with planned completion by October next year.

Bredero Shaw has now won contracts totalling more than $500m, including contracts for Shah Deniz Stage 2 and the associated South Caucasus Pipeline projects.

BP recently appointed Emerson Process Management as the main automation contractor for the Shah Deniz Stage 2 project, which will add an additional 16 billion cubic metres per year of gas production to the approximated nine billion cubic metres per year of gas produced by Shah Deniz Stage 1.

The development will help secure European energy supply by bringing Caspian gas resources to markets in Europe.

The Shah Deniz field was discovered in 1999 in a location about 70km south-east of Baku, at water depths of 50m to 550m.

It is estimated that the field holds 40 trillion cubic feet of gas, with its reservoirs situated approximately 6,000m below sea level.
