Drydocks World secured a contract to fabricate an external Turret for floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel Layang for Orwell Offshore.
The external turret construction, part of a contract signed with Orwell Offshore, enables FPSO Layang’s operations in water depths of up to 90m.
Formerly known as Deep Producer 1, the FPSO Layang is contracted to JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration (Malaysia), and will operate at the Layang field, offshore Sarawak, Malaysia.
Located 8km east of the producing Helang gas field in Block SK10, the Layang field is expected to see commercial production commence in the second quarter of 2016.
According to Drydocks, the project is expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2016 and the external turret for Orwell Offshore will deliver improvements in operational effectiveness, as well as weathervaning capabilities on Layang.

JX Nippon operates Block SK10 offshore Malaysia with a participating interest of 75%.
The company recently obtained the approval of the field development plan for Layang from Malaysian oil company Petroliam Nasional Berhad.
At the Layang field, the initial estimated incremental production of Helang / Layang gas is expected to be around 100 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) and Helang condensate / Layang oil / Layang condensate to be about seven thousand barrels per day (kbd).
JX Nippon said natural gas produced from the field, together with that from Helang field is set to be supplied through subsea pipelines of about 200km long to the MLNG liquefaction plant in Bintulu, Sarawak.
The plant is partly owned by JX Nippon Oil & Energy.
