CGG commences new Horda BroadSeis survey off Norway

AI Summary

Geoscience company CGG has started a new multi-client survey offshore Norway after announcing a western extension of the Horda BroadSeis-BroadSource3D programme.

The company began acquiring the Horda programme in the North Sea in 2014 in order to support exploration and development.

The activities will include geological context and a prospectivity review, potential fields data, and satellite hydrocarbon seep imagery.

“Our first Horda survey received such strong industry support from key industry players in the Northern North Sea, we decided to expand the model to the Tampen area.”

Dubbed Tampen, the extension is located in the Northern Viking Graben, offshore Norway, and the UK, with completion set to take place in 2016.

According to the company, the initial 18,000km² Horda survey will be extended with a further 17,000km² of data to provide a total of 35,000km² of uniform broadband seismic data coverage.

Besides various other fields in the UK, the Tampen survey will cover a mature area encompassing the Statfjord, Gullfaks, Snorre and Osberg fields in Norway.

CGG will undertake the fast-track as well as full imaging of the Horda programme in Norway using its broadband subsurface imaging technologies.

CGG CEO Jean-Georges Malcor said: “Our first Horda survey received such strong industry support from key industry players in the Northern North Sea, we decided to expand the model to the Tampen area.

“The Horda and Tampen surveys will allow them to calibrate and compare the seismic response from existing discoveries and new prospects and leads. This will reduce the risk of drilling structures adjacent to old discoveries and develop new play models in the region.”
