Searcher Seismic has announced it will carry out a 9,000km Echidna Regional Broadband 2D seismic survey in Ireland.
The survey, which will be undertaken in conjunction with project partner MAGE, is due to start in March 2015.
It will be the first well-tie survey covering the Atlantic Margin offshore western Ireland.
The survey will cover the Goban Spur, Porcupine and Slyne Basins, and includes well-tie to more than 30 exploration wells.
The 2D seismic survey will also feature the Connemara and Burren oil fields and the Spanish Point gas discovery.
Searcher Seismic Norway country manager Jan Gunnar Opsal said the rift systems associated with these basins are among the most interesting exploration targets in the North Atlantic, with recent drilling results indicating considerable oil potential.
Gunnar said: “The Flemish Basin on the Canadian side of the Atlantic Rift was located adjacent to the Goban Spur / Southern Porcupine Basins until Aptian time, suggesting the possibility that similar play types may be revealed within the Echidna survey area.”
A +8 km streamer will be used to undertake the Echidna survey and standard deliverables will include both time and depth image processing.
Searcher Seismic said the survey also features the historical drilling results in one consistent, long offset broadband seismic dataset.
