Tamer Aiyesh, EGPC Assistant Chairman for Health, Safety & Environment Protection (HSE), emphasized the evolving environmental consciousness within the industry. He stated that the petroleum sector is increasingly recognized for its strong commitment to environmental compliance. Aiyesh highlighted the continuous investments being made to modernize operations and the gradual but determined shift towards more eco-friendly processes. The overarching goal is to reduce emissions while artfully balancing the imperative for development with the critical need for robust environmental protection. This strategic approach aligns with the broader aims of the carbon footprint platform.

Shaimaa Sayed, EGPC’s HSE Department Manager, elaborated on the key advantages offered by the new platform. She pointed out that it significantly improves the efficiency of emissions management, strengthens adherence to environmental regulations, and directly supports Egypt’s active participation in critical international climate initiatives. Sayed also candidly addressed potential challenges, including the complexities of data integration and the necessity for comprehensive capacity building among personnel. She outlined a series of proposed solutions designed to ensure the effective and sustainable implementation of the platform, reinforcing the value of this carbon footprint platform.

Mohamed Ali, EGPC’s Assistant General Manager, further emphasized the indispensable role of digital transformation. He described it as a cornerstone for advancing environmental management systems, improving the collection and analysis of data, accelerating decision-making processes, and enabling smart, indicator-driven operations across the entire sector. This focus on digital advancements is central to the successful deployment of the new carbon footprint monitoring tools.

Adding further insight, Tarek El-Shennawy, General Manager for Energy Efficiency at the Alexandria National Refining and Petrochemicals Company (ANRPC), remarked that carbon footprint accounting is a pivotal tool. He noted its importance in understanding and effectively managing emissions, which in turn helps to mitigate environmental impacts and reinforce global climate action efforts.

During the workshop, Mohamed Hany, Manager of the Data Analytics Department at EGPC, provided a detailed demonstration of the platform’s integrated suite of data analytics and business intelligence tools. These advanced features are designed to enable real-time data processing, provide interactive dashboards, and present precise performance indicators  Such capabilities offer deep, actionable insights, crucial for enhancing operational efficiency and strengthening strategic planning. This comprehensive approach to data management is a hallmark of the new carbon footprint platform.

The workshop concluded with a clear consensus on a detailed roadmap. This plan encompasses all critical activation phases, establishes robust coordination mechanisms, and outlines comprehensive training and capacity-building programs. The widespread rollout of the platform is slated to commence in the near future. It is noteworthy that the EGPC oversees a vast network of 140 affiliated companies, including 12 subsidiaries and 41 joint ventures, operating across the entire spectrum of the oil and gas value chain, from exploration and production to refining, drilling, engineering, maintenance, transportation, and distribution.
