In implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) has begun implementing the first phase of the natural gas network connection project for Al Dhaid City.
The project completion rate is now at 46%, with phase one to be completed in the first quarter of 2026, as per SEWA.Â
Construction is proceeding on the approved timeline, showcasing SEWA’s to provide important infrastructure in an efficient and timely manner.
Engineer Ibrahim Al Balgouni, director of the Natural Gas Department at SEWA, confirmed that this phase involves the extension of a natural gas pipeline to the Jabal Omar and Tal Al Zafran neighbourhoods.
The aggregate network length being laid is 83 km, and the total investment for this amount is around US$3.81mn (AED14mn).
Upon completion, the project will offer gas services to almost 989 residents in the area.
Al Balgouni mentioned that this development is a major milestone in creating a modern and sustainable energy network throughout Sharjah.
The project forms part of an overall strategy to minimize dependence on conventional gas cylinders by providing a more economical, environmentally-friendly and safer option.
SEWA implements natural gas to contribute to the improvement of living standards as well as residential, commercial and industrial development in Al Dhaid.
The initiative of SEWA implements natural gas is also in line with Sharjah’s broader goals of achieving comprehensive urban development and enhancing community wellbeing.
The organisation further stated that its emphasis on stringent safety standards and cutting-edge infrastructure guarantees that the gas networks not only cater to current needs but are also future-proof.
Connecting Al Dhaid to the natural gas grid is expected to drive economic activity, reduce household energy costs, and contribute to the city’s transformation into a more efficient and sustainable urban environment.
SEWA continues to play a vital role in supporting the emirate’s long-term development plans through strategic investments in essential utility services, the organisation said.
It added that this initiative follows the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and aligns with the emirate’s vision for sustainable development and improved quality of life.
