WorleyParsons wins contract to support Bahrain Petroleum’s modernisation programme

AI Summary

Australia-based WorleyParsons has secured a contract for Bahrain Petroleum Company’s (BAPCO) modernisation programme.

WorleyParsons expects A$120m ($87m) revenue from the contract.

The company will serve as a project management contractor (PMC) and assist BAPCO to manage, monitor and appraise the activities of the front end engineering design contractor.

“We are delighted that BAPCO has chosen WorleyParsons for this critical project and we look forward to working with BAPCO to help it achieve its business objectives.”

WorleyParsons will also help the company to manage engineering, procurement and construction contractors, and other contractors who have been engaged to execute the work.

WorleyParsons chief executive officer Andrew Wood said: “We are delighted that BAPCO has chosen WorleyParsons for this critical project and we look forward to working with BAPCO to help it achieve its business objectives.”

Bapco Modernization Programme (BMP) is designed to optimise the refinery configuration in order to position the company amongst the competitive refineries in the Middle East beyond 2020.

The total refinery throughput is expected to be 360 thousand barrels a day, which would be achieved by integrating several new units into the existing refinery.

The primary objective of BMP is to improve the product slate by upgrading the residue to improve gross margins.

BMP is also aimed at reducing or eliminating fuel oil production, increasing middle distillate production and optimising crude refining capacity in a bid to achieve 360,000 barrels per day.

BAPCO currently owns a 260,000 barrel-a-day refinery, storage facilities for 14 million barrels, a marketing terminal, as well as a marine terminal for its petroleum products.
