Repsol finds gas in Algeria’s TESO-2 exploration well

AI Summary

Repsol has discovered gas in Tan Emellel Sud-Ouest-2 ( TESO-2) exploration well in the Sud-Est Illizi block, Algeria, becoming the third find in the block.

The gas was discovered at a depth of 1,307m. Well testing delivered a gas flow rate of 175,000 cubic metres per day and 90 barrels per day of condensate with a 32/64″ choke.

Repsol intends to drill about four further wells in order to appraise the earlier discoveries within the Sud-Est Illizi block.

The company is the operator in a consortium that includes GDF Suez and Enel. Algeria’s Sonatrach will hold 51% interest in the development and production phases.

The existing members will maintain their current proportions in the remaining 49% interest.

Repsol started operations in Algeria in 1973. The company has increased its presence in the country via active participation in successive exploration bidding rounds that were undertaken in recent years.

In Algeria, Repsol is currently active in Tin-Fouyé Tabankort production operation, Reggane Nord development project and Sud-Est Illizi and Boughezoul exploration blocks.

Repsol currently produces about 8,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in the country.
