French geoscience company CGG has signed an agreement with the Gabonese Ministry for an offshore multi-client survey programme.
The agreement with the Ministère du Pétrole et des Hydrocarbures of the Republic of Gabon will see CGG commence the first phase of a 35,000km² BroadSeis 3D programme in the fourth-quarter of this year.
CGG will acquire the data over the latest available and awarded deepwater blocks offshore Gabon and 9,900km of 2D data over the country’s ultra-deepwater offshore area.
The company will execute the programme in association with the Direction Générale des Hydrocarbures (DGH).
The first phase of the programme will cover about 24,000km² and is expected to take seven months to complete.
CGG said two high-end vessels will be used in the project to deliver the data in time.
The depth imaging of the seismic data will be undertaken in CGG’s Crawley centre in the UK.
CGG CEO Jean-Georges Malcor said: “This exclusive agreement follows on from the support CGG gave the DGH back in 2009 to promote the potential of the deepwater offshore Gabon.
“Now, with the low-frequency enhancement made possible by BroadSeis, our true broadband solution, this new survey programme will enable better imaging of Gabon’s highly prospective pre-salt plays; it will therefore allow oil companies to better de-risk this exciting new exploration arena and accelerate development of the country’s resources.”
