TGS secures new 3D survey in deepwater Gulf of Mexico

Norway-based geoscience data firm TGS has secured a further 3D survey in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, under the Explorer Series data acquisition programme.

The company aims to begin the Panfilo multi-client survey, covering 11,500km² in the Lund and Henderson protraction areas of the central US Gulf, in the fourth-quarter of this year, with data to be made available in late-2015.

TGS plans to utilise the Polarcus Adira chartered vessel for the shoot with the unit set to tow 10km streamers to image regional stratigraphy and deep basin structures.

TGS Western Hemisphere senior VP Rod Starr said: “This data volume will represent a continued investment in the deepwater region of the Gulf of Mexico and will provide new, high-quality data over mainly open acreage, which will be available to industry in future lease rounds.”

TGS offers multi-client geoscience data to worldwide oil and gas exploration and production companies.

In August, TGS acquired a 3D multi-client survey offshore Sierra Leone.

The survey, Sierra Leone Block 4A Extension, will add 1,000km² of new 3D data to the current 6,268km² 3D data library in the West African nation.

TGS has also acquired 2D and 3D multi-client seismic data in North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Arctic.
