Libya and the United States have formalized discussions aimed at bolstering Libya’s oil and gas sector and fostering enhanced cooperation on critical energy infrastructure. A delegation from the Libyan government met with officials from the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington D.C. during an official visit to explore avenues for development and partnership.

Central to these discussions was the advancement of Libya’s oil and gas industry, with a particular emphasis on increasing production efficiency and expanding gas output. The strategic importance of regional energy interconnection projects was highlighted, with the Trans-Saharan Gas Line project (Nigeria-Niger-Libya) to European markets being a key focus. This ambitious pipeline project represents a significant opportunity for energy export and regional integration.

The Libyan representatives also presented the sector’s development programs, outlining the financial framework established within the Unified National Budget. These programs under the energy infrastructure cooperation between the two countries are designed to promote sustainability, enhance production capabilities, and improve overall operational performance within Libya’s energy sector.

Further discussions revolved around strengthening technical and investment collaboration in the energy field. The objective is to support the stability of this vital sector in Libya and to broaden the scope of partnership with the United States on strategic projects that possess both regional and international significance. This Libya-U.S. energy infrastructure cooperation aims to unlock new opportunities.

The Libyan delegation included the Oil and Gas Minister Khalifa Abdel Sadig, Transport Minister Mohamed Al-Shahoubi, Economy and Trade Ministser Suhail Abu Shiha, Head of the Executive Team for the PM’s Initiatives and Strategic Projects, Mustafa Al-Mana, Libyan Investment Authority (LIA) Chairman Ali Mahmoud and National Mining Corporation Director General Faraj Al-Shandouli. Representing the U.S. Department of Energy were Chief of Staff Carl Coe and Senior Advisor Andy Rapp. The commitment to Libya-U.S. energy infrastructure cooperation underscores the mutual interest in developing these critical energy resources and infrastructure, including the Trans-Saharan Gas Line project. This collaboration is pivotal for advancing Libya oil gas development and establishing strategic energy projects.
