QatarEnergy Awards EPC Contract for North Field West Project

QatarEnergy has taken a big step forward in the North Field West project by awarding the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for its onshore LNG facility. This is part of what is called the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) expansion. The construction is the last step in a series of expansion projects that would increase the State of Qatar’s production capacity to 142 million tons per year (MTPA).

A joint venture made up of Technip Energies, Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC), and Gulf Asia Contractor (GAC) has won the EPC contract. The signing took place at QatarEnergy’s headquarters in Doha, where top officials from QatarEnergy, QatarEnergy LNG, and the member businesses of the EPC contractor were present. His Excellency Mr. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs and the President and CEO of QatarEnergy, Mr. Arnaud Pieton, the CEO of Technip Energies, Mr. Samer Khoury, the Chairman of CCC, and Dr. Ravi Pillai, the Chairman and Managing Director of GAC all signed the agreement. The ceremony highlighted the importance of the North Field West project for Qatar’s overall LNG growth strategy.

H.E. Minister Al-Kaabi thanked His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar, for his help and guidance with QatarEnergy and Qatar’s energy sector. He also thanked the leaders and workers of QatarEnergy and QatarEnergy LNG, as well as the EPC partners Technip Energies, CCC, and GAC, for their dedication to making sure the project was a success.

Two LNG mega-trains with a total production capacity of 16 MTPA are at the heart of the onshore scope. There are also facilities for gas treatment, recovering natural gas liquids, and extracting helium. The North Field West project is planned to produce about 175,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in condensate, ethane, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in addition to LNG.

The North Field West project also has environmental features such as CCS facilities and jetty boil-off gas recovery systems that can recover the same amount of CO2 as 0.42 MTPA, which lowers greenhouse gas emissions. Qatar’s solar plants will meet a large part of the project’s electrical needs. The NFW project’s first LNG cargo is set for production by the end of 2031.
