Major Milestones Achieved In Aramco Gas Expansion Plans

Aramco has reached important milestones in its gas expansion program. It announced on 26 February, 2026 that it has started production at Jafurah, the Middle East’s largest unconventional gas field, besides starting the Tanajib Gas Plant. The changes are part of the business’s plan to increase sales gas production capacity by around 80% by 2030 compared to 2021 levels. This would mean that the company would be able to produce about 6 million barrels of oil equivalent per day of total gas and liquids. The Aramco gas expansion is expected to bring in an extra $12 billion to $15 billion in operating cash flows in 2030, depending on how much gas and liquids are sold in the future.

In December 2025, the first unconventional shale gas production of Jafurah began. Technology was a key factor in unlocking the field’s potential and making it a model for developing unconventional gas. Gas from Jafurah is expected to boost economic growth in many areas, including energy, artificial intelligence, and petrochemicals. This will help Saudi Arabia stay among the top 10 gas producers in the world.

Jafurah is about 17,000 square kilometers big and is thought to have 229 trillion standard cubic feet of raw gas and 75 billion stock tank barrels of condensate. By 2030, the field could provide 2 billion standard cubic feet of sales gas, 420 million standard cubic feet of ethane, and about 630,000 barrels of high-value liquids every day.

The Tanajib Gas Plant, which opened in December 2025, is another important part of Aramco’s plan to expand its gas business. By 2026, it is expected that the plant would be able to process 2.6 billion standard cubic feet of raw gas per day. It was started at the same time as the Marjan crude oil increment began to produce. The plant takes in raw gas from the Marjan and Zuluf oil fields offshore. The facility is meant to increase the company’s gas processing capacity and add different types of energy to its portfolio.

The Aramco gas expansion projects are projected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs and make Aramco a more dependable energy source. The strategy helps meet the growing demand for natural gas and supports domestic industries. It also helps create a more balanced energy mix for electricity generation, moving Saudi Arabia closer to its 2060 net-zero goal. Aramco gas expansion strategy also improves energy security, and supports the growth of a diverse national economy.
